This week, we celebrate progress, insight, and inspiration—from uncovering hidden patterns in recurring decimals, to rediscovering quick mental strategies, and honoring the thousands of Vedic Mathletes who dared to compete.
Here’s what’s new on the MATH-Inic blog:
🔁 Recurring Decimals, Part II: A Pattern You Can Count On
Last issue, we showed how subtracting the numerator from the denominator helped reveal missing digits in a repeating decimal.
This week, we take it a step further by arranging the digits of 3 ÷ 29 in two rows—and something remarkable happens.
Each digit in the second half can be found by subtracting the first half’s digits from 9.
It’s a powerful example of how Vedic Math helps uncover patterns that are easy to understand—and even easier to apply.

🧠 Osculation: A Shortcut Hiding in Plain Sight
Find the value of (x^3 – 11x^2 – 21x – 53) if x = 13?
Many students answered this correctly during the 5th MATH-Inic Vedic Mathematics National Challenge, but most used long calculations.
The author had been using a faster method since high school—and only later discovered it was a formally recognized Vedic Math technique called Osculation, as presented by Kenneth Williams in the 2024 Online Conference.
It’s a great reminder that the techniques we develop through observation often align with Vedic Math because it’s based on natural thinking, not step-heavy algorithms.

🏅 Congratulations to Our Vedic Mathletes!
We’re proud of every one of the more than 25,000 students who participated in this school year’s major competitions:
- 5th Philippine National Vedic Mathematics Olympiad
- International Vedic Mathematics Olympiad 2024
- 5th MATH-Inic Vedic Mathematics National Challenge
Whether you earned a medal, a merit award, or simply gained experience, your effort and determination matter.
Your achievements show that math is more than a subject—it’s a mindset of growth, progress, and possibility. Keep learning, keep improving, and keep inspiring others.
